A fishing vessel collided with a cruise ship early Saturday morning approximately 40 nautical miles east of Nantucket, according to Coast Guard officials.

One fisherman aboard the trawler suffered a minor laceration, but there were no other injuries reported.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Ryan Noel told the Current that the fishing vessel Gabby G collided with the cruise ship Norwegian Pearl around 2:25 a.m. on Saturday. The 68-foot trawler hit the mid-section of the 964-foot cruise ship, causing damage to the Gabby G and minor scraping to the Norwegian Pearl.

The cruise ship was able to continue on to its destination in the Bahamas, Noel said, while the damaged Gabby G was forced to return to New Bedford under its own power.

No Coast Guard assets needed to respond to the incident.
